Turkey-Syria Earthquake

As we hear and see the unfolding events in Turkey and Syria since the earthquake on Monday, we find ourselves asking what can we do when faced with such tragedy? The death toll and the numbers of injured people continue to rise as aftershocks and several large earthquakes strike across fault lines in the area. This is reported to be the largest earthquake in Turkey since 1939 and was felt in surrounding countries, including north-west Syria.

If you would like to make a gift to help those within the region we recommend two excellent Christian organisations that Oakhall has close connections with: Operation Mobilisation (OM) and Samara's Aid.

Operation Mobilisation (OM)

OM's local partners are already distributing food and water packs, infant formula, essential hygiene packs and non-food items such as blankets to an estimated 6,000 families who had so little and have now lost everything.

OM are rapidly evaluating where more help is needed. Through established connections and roots in these communities, OM’s partners are able to assess longer term needs in the area and respond accordingly. This approach enables us to engage deeply with people.

Samara's Aid

Samara's Aid is already working in Syria to provide essential supplies to those suffering in the conflict and now the affects of the earthquake. Every prayer, every gift, every action brings hope to people hit by disaster.  Even before this devastating earthquake, there were over four million people in need of aid in Northwest Syria. People are facing a crisis on crisis.  Oakhall Church are partnering with Samara's Aid to collect items desperately needed to save lives and give hope.

If you would like to help by donating items please follow the link to see the list of what is needed.

Please bring the items into Oakhall Church and leave them in the designated area in front of the office by Wednesday 1st March.

Ukraine

Operation Mobilisation (OM)

We are saddened by the Russian invasion of Ukraine and are praying for a swift end to hostilities and for peace in Europe. Millions of people have already been affected by the war and a new refugee crisis has begun.

If you would like to make a gift to help those within the region we recommend three excellent Christian organisations that Oakhall has close connections with: Operation Mobilisation (OM), International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) and Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF).

'The decision is announced by messengers, the holy ones declare the verdict, so that the living may know that the Most High is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and gives them to anyone he wishes and sets over them the lowliest of people.'

Daniel 4:17

OM teams on the ground in Ukraine and in surrounding countries are working directly with their local communities to help those displaced by the current conflict. Refugees are desperate for any kind of help as they cross borders to find safety. OM teams are responding with emergency shelter in homes and church facilities, first aid and basic health care, food parcels, and hygiene supplies.

International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES)

IFES is the family of God in the student world. In the midst of a terrible situation, please help to support friends in Ukraine and those in nearby countries impacted or serving those displaced.

(search for Ukraine Emergency Fund)

Through Oakhall's involvement in the Balkans, there are a network of over 300 Bible School graduates who are strategically placed across the region. Darko and Lidija Adamek head up the work of CEF in Europe and have a team on the Moldovan border where they are helping refugees fleeing Ukraine. Moldova is in fact receiving more refugees per capita than any other country in Europe.

'Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary. So then, while we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, and especially to those who are of the household of the faith.'

Galatians 6:9-10

Why give?

For those of us who are more than “just visiting” Oakhall Church, we see the opportunity to give to the church as an opportunity to serve.  Some of our gifts are used in outreach across the world, some are used for the ongoing costs of running the church here in Caterham.

Being a registered charity (no.1156069) our accounts are submitted and checked by the Charity Commission where they are available for perusal. This also means that the church is able to receive gifts through the “Gift Aid” scheme.

'Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver'

 2 Corinthians 9:7

how to give?

In some of our meetings there is an opportunity to give in a traditional “offering” style.  Some of us prefer to give through our bank account and still others use a service provided by the charity “Stewardship” to enable giving online - please click the link below to reach this service.
